Sunny Side Up
Real talk though, gonna post a short rant and I’d like some feedback.
Sunny Side Up is at the point where we actually have a real fanbase. The concept of that is in itself surreal to me still, but with the advent of facebook changing the way we interact, it’s led to some interesting occurrences with these people.
People who only know me through the band have been adding me on facebook more often lately. More often than not, these people aren’t really music scene types, but more normal people who saw a show or downloaded our EP. That’s all fine and dandy, I have no problem accepting any and all friend requests from SSU fans. In fact, I’m very humbled by it, but there’s a limit in which I can cater to the feelings of fans.
On multiple occasions I’ve had fans of the band post some of the stupidest shit, or even worse, racist jokes on my statuses, pics, ect. When someone adds me on facebook, I personally see it as if they’re extending a friendship to me, and I should treat them like I would anyone else in that situation. Recently a fan posted some seriously racist statements on a status of mine to which I deleted the comments. He got very mad and sent me an angry chat message about how I should be nicer to fans.
Am I wrong for not wanting to put up with bullshit like that?
I would treat anyone the same way, but the fan in this case is using his status as a follower to guilt me into believing that I’m in the wrong.
Tumblr followers, your thoughts please.
Yesterday after this touring ska band finished their set one of their members said this to me about my band
“So yeah, I guess a lot of these ska bands these days have their dicks in Sunny Side Up’s asshole. Now we’re in there too!”
What does that even mean?
Someone help.
